Pres Mnangagwa demands unity of voice within Zanu PF leadership

President Mnangagwa has directed Zanu PF leaders to maintain unity in thought and action, warning that the party will not allow discord, factional manoeuvres or misleading communication to undermine its cohesion.

Speaking at the 386th Ordinary Session of the Politburo in Harare yesterday, the President said collective responsibility was non-negotiable, and that internal indiscipline would weaken both the party and the nation.

“We must all speak with one voice and march in one direction. Leaders of the party are bound by collective responsibility and must unite around party decisions and resolutions, which serve as our ideological and moral compass. Hauroti zvinhu kumba kwako woenda uchitaura sehurongwa hwemusangano. Our communication must be disciplined. MuZanu PF tinomira pachokwadi. Zvemazvake-mazvake, pasi nazvo,” he said.

He said political chicanery, misinformation and attempts to divide the membership had no place in the revolutionary movement, adding that the party’s strength lay in its connection with the people.

“We come from the people, and we will forever remain one with the people.Mobilising and organising the membership to work diligently towards realising our national development aspirations must be our daily duty and political routine,” President Mnangagwa said.

The President reminded leaders that Zanu PF’s historical mission, forged during the liberation struggle, required them to stay grounded in the grassroots.

He warned against detachment from ordinary citizens, describing it as an “ivory tower syndrome” that could erode trust and weaken mobilisation.

On governance, he urged Party officials to provide credible and dependable leadership, insisting that government programmes and projects must defend Zimbabwe’s sovereignty against imperialist agendas.

Turning to the youth, President Mnangagwa expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the recent Zanu PF Youth League National Assembly.

He said the body had shown maturity by prioritising empowerment, productivity and innovation over “political sloganeering.”

“The renewed focus of the Youth League on empowerment, production and productivity, as well as innovation and developing skills for the future, is a welcome development,” he noted. “This is reflective that our Youth League has matured… and is ready to take up space in other social, economic and technological spheres,” the President said.

He added that discipline, courage and hard work remained defining features of the national character, and cautioned against dependency.

“We must never allow the youth and young people, as well as the women of our country, to be trapped in a vicious cycle of dependency. We are masters of our own destiny and a proud African people. This must never change,” he added.

The Politburo observed a moment of silence for national hero Cde Victor Kuretu and other cadres who passed away this month.
