Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Harare West legislator, Joana Mamombe, has commended the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanai World Tourism Expo, describing it as a significant platform that continues to showcase Zimbabwe’s tourism potential to both regional and international markets.
Speaking during a benchmarking exercise on Zimbabwe’s tourism landscape, oversight on the use of public funds, and consultations with operators as part of ongoing work on the Tourism Bill, Mamombe said the expo was a critical step in repositioning Zimbabwe’s tourism sector.
“The Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Expo has proved to be an effective platform that brings together key players in the industry. It not only promotes Zimbabwe’s attractions but also fosters dialogue between Government, Parliament, and the private sector. Such engagements are important as we continue to craft the Tourism Bill, which will shape the sector’s growth and governance,” Mamombe said.
She further noted that the expo contributes positively towards altering negative perceptions that have in the past weighed down on Zimbabwe’s tourism brand. According to Mamombe, consistent international exhibitions of this scale highlight the country’s hospitality, culture, and natural heritage, thereby strengthening Zimbabwe’s competitiveness in the global tourism market.
Moreover, Parliamentary committees have been engaging stakeholders in the tourism industry to gather feedback on existing challenges, opportunities, and expectations as the nation works towards finalizing the new legislative framework.
Tourism operators who participated at the expo expressed optimism that the interactions with lawmakers would lead to reforms that make the sector more investor-friendly, transparent, and sustainable.
Mamombe further, emphasized that the ultimate goal of the exercise was to ensure that oversight on public funds and policy development directly address the needs of operators and communities that depend on tourism.
The Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Expo, organized by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, has over the years become one of the largest tourism showcases in Southern Africa, attracting buyers, exhibitors, and investors from across the globe.
