Thousands throng Zvishavane for Munhumutapa Day

Thousands of people are gathered at Muzondiwa Business Centre in Mapanzure village, Zvishavane, today to commemorate Munhumutapa Day, which coincides with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 83rd birthday.

This year’s event, held under the theme “Stability, Consistence and Continuity,” is being organized by the ZANU PF Youth League. Last year`s celebrations were held at the Great Zimbabwe monuments in Masvingo.

The gathering has brought together traditional leaders, Government officials, youth activists, business leaders, and citizens from across Zimbabwe and the region.

Local residents have welcomed the event for its cultural significance and economic impact.

“We are recording brisk business, and I wish such events could be held more frequently,” said Patricia Matombo, a local trader. She said visitors are boosting sales for shops and street vendors.

“Lodges are fully booked, and major shops are recording a sharp rise in sales. This kind of event helps put Zvishavane on the map,” said Alfred Zhou, a lodge owner.

The celebrations also highlight support for the Government’s development efforts.

“Today, we are celebrating the unprecedented development works being spearheaded by the Second Republic. It is time for Zimbabwe to look forward with confidence,” said Tendai Shoko.

The event is drawing attention to the historical legacy of the Munhumutapa Empire, a former Shona kingdom that once ruled parts of southern Africa. Organizers are linking the day to Zimbabwe’s national heritage and future development goals.

“This celebration brings hope and unity to our community; it’s inspiring to witness progress and the spirit of togetherness during this important occasion,” said Beatrice Hungwe, a community leader. She said youth have a role in continuing the legacy and building the future.

The ZANU PF Youth League says it remains committed to the theme Stability, Consistence and Continuity, calling for peace and unity.

As the day progresses, more attendees continue to arrive at the venue.
