Zanu PF charts economic growth path ahead of Annual Conference

Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Christopher Mutsvangwa, says Zimbabwe is making significant strides in economic recovery, youth empowerment, and trade realignment under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Speaking at a press briefing, at the Zanu PF Headquarters, Mutsvangwa said the ruling party remains committed to delivering on the aspirations of the liberation struggle through policies that promote inclusive economic participation and self-reliance.

“We pay homage to the gallant sons and daughters of the 1960s and 70s who delivered our Independence. Today, we build on their legacy by creating economic opportunities for the next generation,” he said.

Mutsvangwa revealed that the Mutare-Beira corridor is now playing a central role in trade, with Zimbabwe’s exports and imports increasingly passing through this gateway.

“This route is our natural trade artery. It positions Mutare as a strategic economic hub and reduces dependency on traditional, colonial-era trade routes,” he said.

The decision to hold the upcoming Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference in Mutare, he added, reflects the growing economic importance of the eastern region.

He said Zimbabwe is now producing 51 tonnes of gold annually, a remarkable turnaround driven by reforms initiated in 2013 to liberalise the sector.

“We brought the war veterans into economic policy and opened up mining to the youth. Today, young Zimbabweans like Scott Sakupwanya are not only succeeding but also empowering others,” said Cde Mutsvangwa.

He credited President Mnangagwa for decisively curbing gold smuggling, allowing more gold to be sold legally and benefitting the nation.

Cde Mutsvangwa said Zimbabwe is forging new economic alliances beyond traditional Western capitals. “The world has changed. We no longer rely on London or Washington. We can now access capital from São Paulo, Riyadh, and Mumbai,” he said.

He also noted that the United States is reviewing ZIDERA, acknowledging that Zimbabwe has remained resilient despite illegal sanctions.

Mutsvangwa urged Zimbabweans to rally behind the national vision and to support the upcoming Zanu PF Conference, which will set the tone for further development and party mobilisation.

“The future is bright. We have the leadership, the policies, and the people to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy,” he said.
