Zimbabwe Marks World Tourism Day in Style

The nation yesterday joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Tourism Day 2025, with the Tourism Month celebrations concluding in grand style at Dzivarasekwa Stadium under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

The event, graced by colourful performances and a jubilant atmosphere, reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s position as a leading African tourism destination and a nation firmly on the path of inclusive economic growth under the stewardship of President Mnangagwa’s Second Republic.

Officiating at the national showcase, Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon. Barbara Rwodzi underscored the sector’s vital role in driving the country’s economic transformation.

“Tourism is no longer just about leisure. It is livelihoods,” she declared. “With a 17 percent contribution to the National GDP, the sector is a key engine of growth and inclusivity. Women, youths and persons with disabilities must seize opportunities in Township, Sports, Religious and Gastronomy Tourism. This is how we ensure that no one and no place is left behind, in line with His Excellency the President’s Devolution Agenda.”

The day’s festivities brought to life Zimbabwe’s cultural pride and creative spirit. The Police Band’s rousing renditions and electrifying performances from Nisha T and Sulu Chimbetu had crowds on their feet, showcasing the powerful fusion of music, culture and tourism. Performances were not merely entertainment but a practical demonstration of how the creative industries continue to create jobs, strengthen identity, and promote Zimbabwe on the global stage.

Guests were welcomed by the Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Charles Tawengwa, who commended the choice of Dzivarasekwa as symbolic of the Township Tourism drive, aligning fully with the Government’s thrust to bring development to the grassroots.

Closing the historic occasion, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon. Tongai Mnangagwa paid tribute to all who made the celebration a resounding success.

“Tourism thrives when communities, Government and the private sector unite with one vision,” he said. “Today’s celebration is proof that Zimbabwe is open, ready and fully committed to sustainable transformation. Under the guidance of our leadership, we will continue to shine as one of Africa’s most vibrant and resilient destinations.”

The day’s proceedings firmly placed tourism at the heart of Zimbabwe’s transformation journey, a sector that not only generates wealth but uplifts communities, builds national pride and strengthens the country’s international brand identity under the rallying call: “ZimBho! #ExperienceZimbabwe.”
