Reckless Harare Kombi Driver Jailed and Licence Cancelled

The Harare Magistrates’ Court has convicted 40 year old Jangano Killyoet for reckless driving, in violation of the Road Traffic Act.

On the 23 September 2025, around 1415 hours, the offender who resides in Green Valley Co-operative, Epworth, was driving a Toyota Hiace at the busy Robert Mugabe / Innez Terrace intersection. While attempting to pick up passengers at an undesignated point, he noticed police officers on patrol and tried to evade arrest.

In doing so, he:
• Drove on the pavements crowded with pedestrians
• Travelled on the wrong side of the road
• Failed to keep a proper lookout ahead and behind
• Drove at an excessive speed in the circumstances

The court ruled that the offender had endangered lives by acting unlawfully. He was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment and a cancellation of his Class 2 driver’s licence.

This case highlights the justice delivery system’s tough stance on reckless driving, particularly by public transport operators who endanger lives in the city.
