CAPE TOWN – The Speaker of the National Assembly of Zimbabwe, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, delivered a landmark address at the historic 11th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20), which concluded on Friday, 3rd October 2025, in Cape Town, South Africa.
His extempore speech resonated strongly with presiding officers and international leaders gathered in Kleinmond, Cape Town, highlighting Zimbabwe’s growing influence in global parliamentary diplomacy. Advocate Mudenda’s eloquence, depth of insight, and diplomatic gravitas reaffirmed his stature as a leading voice on matters of legislative collaboration and democratic governance.
In his address, Speaker Mudenda expressed profound gratitude to the Republic of South Africa for its gracious hospitality and for demonstrating the country’s capacity to successfully host such a monumental global parliamentary gathering. He praised South Africa’s leadership in ensuring a seamless Summit experience, fostering an environment conducive to meaningful dialogue, cooperation, and knowledge exchange among parliamentary leaders from the world’s major economies.
“The Summit provided an invaluable platform for exchanging ideas on enhancing legislative oversight, promoting democratic governance, and strengthening the role of parliaments in global development,” Speaker Mudenda said. “It also underscored the importance of collaboration among nations to address common challenges such as climate change, public health, and inclusive economic growth.”
Highlighting the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy, Advocate Mudenda called on legislators to champion initiatives that promote peace, stability, and development in their respective countries and regions. He emphasised that parliaments are pivotal in translating global agreements into tangible benefits for citizens.
