Ras Pompy granted bail pending appeal

Popular ZimDancehall artist Reginald Mano, widely known by his stage name Ras Pompy, has been granted bail pending appeal by the High Court following his conviction by the Magistrates’ Court earlier this year.

The ruling marks a temporary reprieve for the youthful chanter as he challenges his conviction through a formal appeal process. His case was presented before the High Court by legal practitioner Dumisani Mthombeni, who was specifically engaged to handle this crucial application.

In granting bail, the High Court set a series of strict conditions designed to ensure Ras Pompy remains compliant with judicial procedures while awaiting the outcome of his appeal. The artist is required to deposit US$300 with the Clerk of Court at the Harare Magistrates Court as part of his bail terms.

Furthermore, the court ordered that Ras Pompy continue residing at his current address until the appeal is concluded. He must also report once a week, every Friday between 6 AM and 6 PM, at Matapi Police Station. This measure aims to maintain regular monitoring and accountability throughout the appeal period.

In addition, the court directed Ras Pompy to surrender his passport to the Clerk of Court, effectively restricting his movement outside the country until the matter is finalised.

The decision has been met with relief and support from Ras Pompy’s fans, who took to social media to express optimism that justice would prevail in the upcoming appeal.

Ras Pompy, one of Zimbabwe’s most talented ZimDancehall artists, rose to fame as a teenager and has since built a loyal fanbase with his energetic performances and socially conscious lyrics.

With the High Court’s decision, attention now turns to the pending appeal hearing, where the artist’s legal team will seek to overturn his earlier conviction.
