Champions League: Chelsea, Barca draw, Manchester City see off Dortmund

It was another bad night for Johnny Heitinga and Ajax after they were defeated 3-0 at home by Galatasaray, thanks to a hat-trick from Victor Osimhen. The Dutch coach was under pressure for his job going into the game, and it will have been ratcheted up to another level after that result.

In Manchester, City beat Borussia Dortmund 4-1 – Rayan Cherki adding the gloss on a great night for the home side where Phil foden scored a brace and Haaland kept to his own script by doubling Manchester City’s lead after good work from Jeremy Doku.

Garnacho’s second-half strike would rescue a point for Chelsea, but they will feel like a defeat for a side who missed the chance to move inside the league phases’ top eight. It is another good result for Qarabag, however, as they continue their impressive start to the campaign with a hard-fought 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile, Inter had to fight hard to see off valiant Kairat Almaty 2-1, with the Kazakh side still searching for their first win in the competition.

Bayer Leverkusen snuck past Benfica 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from Patrik Schick, whilst Atalanta beat Marseille by the same scoreline.

In Belgium it was the game of the night between Club Brugge and Barcelona. Three times Brugge went ahead and three times they were pulled back by the Catalans in a game that had 34 shots as well as some controversy. Both teams can be happy with a point as it finished 3-3.

Elsewhere, English club Newcastle United ran out 2-0 winners over Athletic Club with Dan Burn and Joelinton both getting on the scoresheet.
