Government to Begin Paying 2025 Bonuses to Civil Servants on Friday

Public sector workers are set to begin receiving their 2025 annual bonuses this Friday, with the first 50 percent to be paid together with November salaries and the remaining half to be disbursed in December.

In addition to the traditional annual bonuses, Government employees will also benefit from a once-off Special Presidential Bonus of US$150, a gesture from President Mnangagwa. Half of this amount will be paid this month, with the balance scheduled for payment next month.

Authorities say the split payment arrangement aims to ease pressure on the banking system, reduce long queues, and promote smooth cash flow management across the public sector.

As has become customary, payments will begin with members of the security services, followed by workers in the health and education sectors, before extending to the rest of the civil service. Traditional leaders and their messengers will also receive bonuses, continuing a practice introduced over the past two years.

The announcement has sparked excitement across the civil service, with many welcoming the double bonus package as timely relief ahead of the festive season.

Meanwhile, the local currency — Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) — has maintained stability, providing a positive backdrop for the bonus payments.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Mr Simon Masanga, confirmed that Government has already implemented the agreed adjustments following discussions under the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC).

  1. A timely and morale-boosting move by Government just in time for the festive season. Civil servants truly deserve this recognition for keeping the nation running. 💪🎉

    1. Indeed. Imagine a state of affairs without civil servants. There wouldn’t be any nation to talk of. Of course, some say the amount may be little, but its better than nothing at all. The private sector is not paying bonuses with comparable consistency. And on important realization is that the more the pay for civil servants, the more the povo has to be taxed. So its a balancing act between competing interests.

  2. Thank you to President Mnangagwa and Treasury for acknowledging the sacrifices made by public sector workers. This will surely motivate even greater commitment in 2026. 🙌🇿🇼
