Hon. Labanny Munemo Hails President Mnangagwa’s Visionary SONA

The Member of Parliament for Mt Darwin North Constituency, Hon. Labanny Munemo has heaped praise on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s latest State of the Nation Address (SONA), describing it as “visionary, people-centered, and full of hope for every Zimbabwean.”

Adressing Parliament recently, Hon. Munemo said the SONA captured the pulse of a nation that is rebuilding itself through hard work and unity.

“The President didn’t just deliver a speech, he gave direction and reassurance,” said Hon. Munemo. “He showed us where we’re coming from, where we are, and where we are headed as a country. It was comprehensive, visionary, and uplifting.”

Food Security: Pfumvudza Restoring Dignity

Hon. Munemo singled out the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme as one of the President’s biggest success stories.

“Through Pfumvudza, households now have food security. Even in tough years, no one has died of hunger,” he said. “This is the kind of leadership that puts people first. The President has ensured that every family can put a meal on the table.”

He said the initiative had transformed smallholder farming into a reliable source of livelihood, restoring dignity and hope in rural communities. “People now plan ahead, produce more, and depend less on food aid. That is real empowerment,” he added.

Rural Development 8.0: Jobs in the Villages

Hon. Munemo also praised the President’s Rural Development 8.0 model, which focuses on creating employment and business opportunities right in rural areas through Village and School Business Units.

“The President is saying, ‘Let’s build our country with our own hands, ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.’ That is powerful,” said Hon. Munemo. “Our people are no longer just waiting for help; they’re becoming active participants in nation building.”

He said the programme was already changing lives, with rural youth now engaged in income-generating projects close to home. “This is inward development at its best, bringing opportunities to where people live,” he noted.

Empowering the Youth: “The Country Is Their Inheritance”

The MP was particularly inspired by the President’s message to young people, calling it “a message of trust and inheritance.”

“The President reminded the youth that Zimbabwe is theirs,” said Hon. Munemo. “Through the Presidential Livestock, Poultry, Tractor, and Borehole Schemes, young people are being equipped to take charge of their future.”

He said the programmes were giving thousands of young Zimbabweans practical tools to become entrepreneurs and community leaders. “When a young person has access to land, livestock, or equipment, that is not just empowerment that is a lifetime opportunity,” he said.

Water Access: Changing Lives Drop by Drop

Hon. Munemo also highlighted the impact of the Presidential Borehole Drilling Programme, saying it had brought clean water to areas that had gone without it for decades.

“You can now go to rural wards and see women smiling because they no longer walk long distances for water,” he said. “That’s the kind of change that touches people’s daily lives.”

He said access to clean water had also helped boost nutrition and small-scale farming through community gardens. “Water is life, and the President has made sure it flows again in rural Zimbabwe,” he added.

A Country Flowing with Milk and Honey

On agriculture, Hon. Munemo said Zimbabwe was now “a country of milk and honey.”

“Dairy, honey, wheat, and maize production is booming. Even blueberries are being exported,” he said with pride. “It is not just statistics; you can see it in our granaries and our markets.”

He noted that aquaculture and fishery projects being set up in rural areas were also improving nutrition and creating jobs. “People in the villages are now harvesting fish and selling it locally. It is new life, new energy,” he said.

Responsible Mining and Beneficiation

Turning to mining, Hon. Munemo said the President’s message on responsible mining and beneficiation was timely and visionary.

“We have the minerals, but what matters is how we use them,” he said. “The President is making sure we get real value, not just exporting raw minerals but creating industries, jobs, and income from them.”

He added that responsible mining was also protecting the environment and ensuring communities benefit directly from nearby resources.

Tourism Rising Again

Hon. Munemo said Zimbabwe’s growing tourism industry showed that peace and stability had returned to the country.

“Our country is beautiful and peaceful,” he said. “The influx of tourists and the awards Zimbabwe has won prove that the world is noticing us again. Under President Mnangagwa, the country’s image is being restored.”

He credited improved infrastructure, safety, and marketing for helping Zimbabwe reclaim its place as a top African destination.

Economic Stability and Service Delivery

Hon. Munemo said the President’s administration had brought a new level of consistency and reliability in governance.

“We no longer have the chaos of fuel queues or food shortages,” he said. “Civil servants are being paid on time. That alone shows economic discipline and order. Vision 2030 is now within reach.”

He said stability was restoring public confidence and encouraging productivity in both public and private sectors.

Infrastructure Developments Everywhere

The MP also pointed to the wave of infrastructure projects across the country as proof that development was no longer confined to cities.

“Everywhere you go, whether it is highways or small feeder roads, there is work going on,” said Hon. Munemo. “No constituency has been left behind. This is the hallmark of President Mnangagwa’s leadership: inclusive development.”

He said modern roads, bridges, and public buildings were transforming the face of rural Zimbabwe and connecting communities like never before.

Health for All

On the health sector, Hon. Munemo commended the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare despite the challenges.

“You can see new clinics being built, mothers’ shelters coming up, and efforts to ensure medicines reach every corner of the country,” he said. “It shows that the President genuinely cares about the health and dignity of our people.”

He said such projects were especially changing maternal health outcomes in remote areas, saving lives and giving women safer conditions to deliver their children.

Unity and Shared Purpose

For Hon. Munemo, one of the strongest takeaways from the President’s address was his call for unity.

“The President spoke as a father of the nation,” he said. “He reminded us that we are not enemies. We are one people with one destiny. His message was full of hope and inclusivity.”

He said the SONA was not just a report of progress, but “a rallying call” for Zimbabweans to keep working together, regardless of background or political affiliation.

“When you look around, the roads, the clinics, the boreholes, the growing crops, you can see the progress. It is no longer talk, it is visible,” Hon. Munemo said. “President Mnangagwa is leading with action, not promises.”

“Zimbabwe Is Truly on the Move”

In closing, Hon. Munemo said the State of the Nation Address proved that the Second Republic is delivering tangible results.

“This country is on the move,” he said. “We are seeing unprecedented development in every province. Zimbabwe is becoming a land of opportunity, a nation flowing with milk and honey.”

He added that under President Mnangagwa’s leadership, Zimbabweans now believe again in their own capacity to rebuild and prosper.

“We are no longer waiting for outsiders,” he said with conviction. “We are building Zimbabwe with our own hands – Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.”

  1. I agree most on rural job creation. This is a vital tool on two important fronts: 1. Reducing rural-urban migration. 2. Industrializing rural areas into meaningful economic and development hubs.
