Zim steps up diplomatic, health engagements at UN

The Mission of the Republic of Zimbabwe to the United Nations has announced a series of high-level engagements in New York aimed at strengthening cooperation in health, food security and the global HIV/AIDS response.

In a statement yesterday , the Mission said Ambassador Taonga Mushayavanhu met with the Permanent Observer of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Ambassador Paul Beresford-Hill, to open discussions on establishing diplomatic relations between the two sides.

“The meeting explored concrete areas of cooperation, particularly in health and food security, which remain priority sectors for Zimbabwe,” the Mission said.

The Mission added that Ambassador Mushayavanhu also met with the Director of the UNAIDS New York Office, Dr. César Antonio Núñez, to review the current state of the global HIV/AIDS response.

“The discussions focused on the implications of the sun-setting of UNAIDS and what this means for Africa’s efforts to combat HIV/AIDS,” the Mission noted.

According to the Mission, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to global health goals.

“The meeting underscored the importance of sustaining momentum toward ending HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
