Refurbishment of National Sports Stadium nears completion

Government says the refurbishment of the National Sports Stadium in Harare is progressing steadily, with most key works nearing completion.

Presenting an update during a post-Cabinet briefing in Harare yesterday, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere, said notable progress had been achieved through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model adopted to accelerate the rehabilitation works.

“Through the Public-Private Partnership model, which was meant to accelerate refurbishment works, remarkable progress has been scored at the National Sports Stadium, including works on the pitch drainage and herbicide application, with lawn planting expected to commence soon,” he said.

According to the briefing, work on the B-Arena drainage system is also ongoing, complementing the infrastructural improvements being undertaken across the facility.

Muswere said the revamp of internal systems was at an advanced stage.

“Overall progress on other works, including electricals, is at 90%,” he said.

Government has indicated that once completed, the revamped National Sports Stadium will boost the country’s sports development agenda, attract international tournaments and enhance revenue generation through major sporting and entertainment events.
