Zimbabwe’s creative talent is taking its place on the global stage after the critically acclaimed short film Rise took home two major honours at the Regal Film Festival Awards (REFFA) in Accra, Ghana this weekend.
The film, produced by Joe Njagu, further cements its international reputation following its historic distinction as the first Zimbabwean production to qualify for Oscar consideration earlier this year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Njagu dedicated the wins to the entire team behind Rise, praising Ghana’s vibrant arts community for recognising African stories with courage and heart.
The accolades in Ghana add to a remarkable journey for the short film, which has captured global attention for its storytelling, emotional depth, and outstanding ensemble performances — bringing Zimbabwean cinema to the forefront of international film conversation.
