Euro-based Warriors shine bright

Zimbabwe international footballers based in Europe have recorded a strong run of performances for their respective clubs, despite the Warriors’ early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Several national team players have quickly shifted focus back to club football, translating their AFCON experiences into positive contributions across European leagues.

Tawanda Maswanhise continued his fine form in the Scottish Premiership, playing a decisive role for Motherwell. The winger scored his ninth league goal of the season in a 2-0 victory over St Mirren, taking his overall tally to 13 goals across all competitions. Maswanhise was one of Zimbabwe’s standout performers at AFCON and has maintained that momentum at club level.

In England, fellow forward Tawanda Chirewa returned to action for Wolverhampton Wanderers, making a substitute appearance in their 3-0 Premier League win over West Ham United. The victory marked Wolves’ first league win of the season. Chirewa, who featured in all three Group B matches for Zimbabwe at AFCON, will be aiming to cement his place in the squad after registering his second senior appearance for the club.

Meanwhile, forward Daniel Msendami’s strong displays at AFCON have reportedly attracted interest from several clubs. The Zimbabwe international emerged as one of the Warriors’ most impressive players at the tournament, with South African giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates said to be monitoring his progress.

With the January transfer window drawing closer, speculation surrounding Msendami’s future is expected to intensify as clubs assess potential moves.
