Mabvuku Interchange Gains Momentum

Infrastructure development continues to be a key pillar of the National Development Strategy Two (NDS2), with major projects such as the Mabvuku Traffic Interchange steadily progressing. The initiative underscores the Second Republic’s commitment to modernising Zimbabwe’s transport network and improving mobility across the capital.

The new year has seen renewed activity at the Mabvuku Traffic Interchange, a vital artery in Harare. Construction is currently at the piling stage, a critical process involving the drilling and concreting of underground piles that will support the interchange structure.

Authorities say the project remains firmly on track, in line with the government’s infrastructure roadmap. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has repeatedly emphasised the importance of national unity and the mobilisation of local resources to drive development.

“I call upon all the people of our motherland, Zimbabwe, including development partners, to rally behind this transformational National Development Strategy Two. Together, with unity, focus and unwavering determination, we can accelerate progress and surpass our development aspirations,” President Mnangagwa said.

He added that by leveraging domestic resources, the hard work of citizens, the creativity of the youth, and contributions from the diaspora, Zimbabwe’s development goals remain within reach.

So far, more than 20 piles, each averaging eight metres deep, have been completed out of the targeted 48, which are expected to be finished by mid-year. As construction continues, motorists are advised to expect narrowed lanes over the coming months. Despite temporary disruptions, many road users remain optimistic about the long-term benefits.

“It is a big project that will finally ease challenges we have faced for years,” said one motorist. Another added: “Once completed, it will not only improve the roads but also bring modern infrastructure to the area.” A commuter echoed these sentiments: “This is a clear sign of commitment to progress, and such projects should be replicated in other areas.”

While the construction timeline may test the patience of some commuters, authorities maintain that this phase marks a decisive step toward transforming mobility in Harare, reducing congestion, enhancing road safety, and finally addressing years of traffic bottlenecks.
