Jiti ICT Hub launched in Shamva to enhance digital learning

Government has launched the Jiti ICT Hub in Shamva to improve access to digital technology in schools, expand ICT infrastructure in rural communities, and equip learners with skills for the 21st-century economy.

The facility was commissioned by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Torerayi Moyo, in collaboration with the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Moyo said the hub marked a significant milestone in efforts to integrate technology into the education system.

“Today, I am pleased to announce the official launch of the Jiti ICT Hub in Shamva, a transformative milestone in our ongoing efforts to integrate digital technology into Zimbabwe’s education system,” he said.

He said the initiative demonstrated Government’s commitment to ensuring that rural learners are not left behind.

“This initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, marks a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in rural communities,” Minister Moyo said.

He added that the hub would go beyond being a physical structure and serve as a centre of opportunity for the local community.

“The Jiti ICT Hub is not just a building; it is a gateway to opportunity. It will empower learners, educators and the broader Shamva community with access to digital tools, internet connectivity and essential skills for today’s knowledge-based economy,” he said.

Minister Moyo emphasised that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education remained committed to providing equitable access to quality education across the country.

“As the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, we remain committed to ensuring that no learner is left behind. Through partnerships like this, we are building a future where every child, regardless of their location, has access to quality, technology-enabled education,” he said.

The ICT hub forms part of Government’s broader digital transformation agenda, which seeks to improve ICT infrastructure in schools and communities, particularly in underserved areas.

Local leaders welcomed the development, saying it would enhance learning outcomes and provide new opportunities for young people in Shamva. The hub is expected to support digital literacy programmes, online learning, and community access to information, contributing to socio-economic development in the district.
