Zimbabwean multimedia journalist and investment facilitator Josephine Mahachi has been appointed Head of Business Development at Dangote Industries’ newly established offices in Harare, marking a significant step in the Nigerian conglomerate’s expanding footprint in Zimbabwe.
Mahachi, who is widely known for her work with German international broadcaster Deutsche Welle and the television programme Click Africa, built a reputation for amplifying African narratives and promoting continental pride through storytelling. Beyond journalism, she has played an instrumental role in investment facilitation, most notably helping to bring Dangote Industries’ investment into Zimbabwe.
Her appointment comes as Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, accelerates the rollout of a US$1 billion investment programme in the country. The investment targets key sectors including cement manufacturing, power generation and major infrastructure projects, with plans also encompassing the development of an oil pipeline.
Dangote formally signed the landmark investment agreement with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Government of Zimbabwe in November last year, signalling renewed foreign investor confidence in the country’s industrial and infrastructure potential. The transaction was financially advised by Bard Santner Inc., led by seasoned banking executive Senziwani Sikhosana.
Industry observers say Mahachi’s blend of international media experience, strategic communication skills and investment facilitation expertise positions her well to drive local partnerships, stakeholder engagement and business growth for Dangote Industries in Zimbabwe.
Her appointment is expected to strengthen the group’s business development strategy, support project execution on the ground, and deepen Dangote Industries’ long-term presence in the Zimbabwean market as the company advances its ambitious expansion plans.
