Guruve murders rise to 25

Suspected serial killer Anymore Zvitsva is now facing 25 murder charges after police confirmed the discovery of two additional victims in Guruve, raising the alleged death toll from 23.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) National Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said investigators have expanded the scope of the inquiry to include allegations of rape, attempted murder and possible involvement of accomplices.

“We can confirm that two more victims have been discovered in connection with Zvitsva’s murder spree, bringing the total number of alleged victims to 25. As a result, he is now facing charges related to the alleged killing of 25 people,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

Investigators have also recorded additional allegations of rape and attempted murder. Furthermore, investigations are underway into allegations that Zvitsva may have been assisted by other individuals and that some people were allegedly given body parts.

Zvitsva was arrested, on January 3, in Guruve and first appeared in court from Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, on January 5. During his latest appearance at the Harare Magistrates Court, the State requested more time to consolidate multiple dockets linked to his alleged offences.

Court proceedings also indicated that some victims’ remains were found with certain body parts missing, prompting deeper police inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crimes.

Zvitsva is expected to return to the Harare Magistrates Court on February 3 for routine remand as investigations continue.
