Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader, Walter Magaya, has been remanded in custody to 16 February following his arrest on additional rape allegations this Monday.
Magaya, who was out on bail for previous rape and fraud charges, was rearrested by police officers shortly after appearing at Harare Magistrates Court Monday morning.
The new charges bring the total number of rape allegations against him to nine.
The State applied for Magaya to be placed on remand, citing the seriousness of the offences.
Magaya is also scheduled to appear in court on March 27 for the already existing fraud case.
Meanwhile, the court is expected to set the start date for the original rape case this Tuesday, following a request from the State for more time.
The delay comes after it was revealed that a key witness was unable to travel to Zimbabwe in time for the court session.
The application for postponement was opposed by his lawyer Admire Rubaya.
Court documents detail that some of the allegations date back to 2013, when Magaya allegedly met a complainant during a prayer session and subsequently committed the offence at a local hotel.
Another allegation involves an incident during a business trip to South Africa in 2018. Magaya has consistently denied the allegations. Investigations and legal proceedings are still ongoing
