Parliament donates to Gwanda Old People’s Home

Parliament, yesterday, donated various goods to the Gwanda Old People’s Home using proceeds from its Annual Charity Golf Tournament, in a gesture underscoring its commitment to corporate social responsibility and community welfare.

The donation, which comprised foodstuffs and other essential supplies, is intended to improve the welfare of elderly residents at the institution.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, parliament officials said the initiative reflects its dedication to giving back to communities and supporting vulnerable groups, particularly senior citizens.

They noted that the elderly remain an integral part of society whose contributions deserve recognition and continued support.

Officials added that the Annual Charity Golf Tournament was established to mobilise resources for meaningful social causes across the country.

Gwanda residents welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.

A local resident, Thabani Moyo, said the donation demonstrated genuine care for the elderly.

“Our elders sacrificed a lot for this nation. It is encouraging to see institutions like Parliament recognising and supporting them in a practical way,” he said.

Another resident, Nomalanga Sibanda, said such initiatives help strengthen community values.

“When our elderly are cared for, it reflects the kind of society we want to build — one rooted in respect and compassion,” she said.

Staff and residents at the Gwanda Old People’s Home expressed gratitude for the donation, saying it would go a long way in easing daily challenges faced by the facility.

Parliament has, over the years, remained active in community development initiatives, channeling resources towards health, education and social welfare programmes as part of its broader corporate social responsibility agenda.
