Ministry of Health conducts support mission in Mat. North

The Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Sleiman Kwidini, was in Matabeleland North, yesterday, on a support and supervision mission aimed at strengthening healthcare service delivery across the province.

Speaking during visits to district hospitals and primary care centres, Kwidini said the mission is designed to directly engage with frontline health workers and patients to better understand operational challenges.

“We are here to see firsthand how our healthcare teams are coping, what gaps exist, and how we can support them to deliver quality services to our communities,” he said.

He emphasized that the ministry values the input of staff and clients alike in shaping responsive health policies.

“It is only by listening to those on the ground, our nurses, doctors, and patients that we can develop interventions that truly work,” he added.

During interactions with staff,  Kwidini encouraged health workers to voice their concerns openly.

“If there are challenges with equipment, medicine supply, or staffing, we want to know. This mission is about understanding your realities and providing practical solutions,” he noted.

Patients also shared their experiences, raising issues ranging from waiting times to service accessibility.

“Hearing directly from clients is essential. Their feedback informs how we plan services and allocate resources,” the Deputy Minister said.

He further stated that supervision missions help strengthen accountability and efficiency within health facilities.

“Support visits like these allow us to monitor performance, guide improvements, and ensure that health workers are motivated and equipped to do their work,” he explained.

Kwidini toured several facilities, holding discussions with district health officers, community leaders, and staff, highlighting areas needing urgent attention.

“We are committed to ensuring that no patient is left behind and that every health worker has the tools and support to perform their duties effectively,” he said.

The Deputy Minister assured that findings from the mission would inform policy adjustments and resource allocation.

“We will take the lessons from this visit to make tangible improvements in service delivery across the province. Our goal is a health system that works for every Zimbabwean,” he concluded.

Matabeleland North faces persistent challenges in healthcare delivery due to limited infrastructure and staffing shortages. The Ministry of Health and Child Care has intensified efforts, in recent years, to provide supervision, training, and resources to facilities, ensuring that citizens have access to quality healthcare services.
