The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, on Tuesday received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of Sudan to Zimbabwe, Ibrahim Al-Sheikh Abdel-Razig Ahmed, at the Ministry’s offices in Harare, where the two sides held discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations through expanded cooperation in political, economic and regional affairs.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Murwira said Zimbabwe remained committed to deepening fraternal relations with Sudan and advancing cooperation rooted in shared historical ties and mutual respect.
“Zimbabwe and Sudan share long-standing relations that are anchored on solidarity, mutual understanding and a common vision for the development of our peoples.
We are committed to strengthening these relations through structured engagement mechanisms that allow us to translate political goodwill into tangible outcomes,” Professor Murwira said.
He added that Harare viewed Sudan as a key partner in Africa’s broader agenda of unity and economic transformation.
“We believe that our cooperation must go beyond diplomacy and extend into practical areas such as trade, investment, agriculture, and capacity building.
It is through such collaboration that African states can achieve self-reliance and resilience in the face of global economic challenges,” Minister Murwira noted.
The Minister further emphasized Zimbabwe’s support for peaceful resolution of conflicts in Sudan and across the region, noting that stability was critical for sustainable development.
Ambassador Ibrahim Al-Sheikh Abdel-Razig Ahmed expressed appreciation for Zimbabwe’s continued solidarity with Sudan and reiterated his country’s desire to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
“We are grateful for the consistent support and friendship extended by Zimbabwe to Sudan during challenging times.
This visit is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen our bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation that benefit both our peoples,” he said.
He noted that Sudan was keen to institutionalize engagement through formal frameworks that would ensure continuity and effectiveness in bilateral relations.
“We are particularly interested in establishing Joint Commissions and structured political consultation mechanisms that will guide our cooperation in a more coordinated and results-oriented manner.
Sudan views Zimbabwe as an important partner in the African continent’s collective efforts to promote peace, stability and economic integration,” he added.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to accelerate diplomatic engagements and finalize frameworks that will guide future cooperation between Harare and Khartoum, marking a renewed phase in Zimbabwe–Sudan relations grounded in structured dialogue and practical collaboration.
