The European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation, dialogue and partnership with Zimbabwe and the African Union following a high-level diplomatic meeting held in Harare on Sunday.
Speaking after hosting a breakfast engagement for visiting officials from the European Union Delegation to the African Union, Italian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Giuseppe Giacalone said the gathering underscored the importance of deepening relations between the EU, the African Union and Zimbabwe.
“A warm welcome to colleagues from the European Union Delegation to the African Union,” Ambassador Giacalone said in a statement following the meeting.
The Italian Ambassador said the engagement provided an important platform for discussions on the growing relationship between the European Union, the African Union and Zimbabwe at a time when international cooperation is increasingly viewed as critical in addressing global and regional challenges.
“The gathering was a valuable opportunity to exchange on the strong partnership between the EU, the African Union and Zimbabwe, and to reaffirm our shared commitment to cooperation, dialogue and partnership.
The meeting also highlighted the European Union’s continued diplomatic and development engagement with Zimbabwe, which has in recent years focused on governance, trade, investment, climate resilience, agriculture, health and infrastructure development,” Ambassador Giacalone added.
Diplomatic relations between Zimbabwe and the European Union have continued to improve following years of re-engagement efforts by Harare and its international partners. The EU remains one of Zimbabwe’s key development and humanitarian partners, supporting a wide range of programmes aimed at promoting sustainable development and economic recovery.
The visit by officials from the EU Delegation to the African Union comes as Zimbabwe continues to strengthen its regional and international cooperation frameworks under its engagement and re-engagement policy.
