Five nabbed with ZIG10.8m dagga haul

Five suspects have been arrested after police intercepted a vehicle transporting 360 kilogrammes of loose dagga valued at ZIG10.8 million along the Bulawayo-Solusi Road in Bulawayo.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) identified the suspects as Gordon Nkowu (58), Nkosiyabo Moyo (57), Shepherd Nkomo (43), Beven Sibanda (40) and Isaiah Moyo (31).

According to police, the suspects were travelling in a Toyota Hilux towing a trailer loaded with the illicit consignment when they were intercepted during an operation targeting drug trafficking activities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the dagga had allegedly been smuggled into Zimbabwe from South Africa through Botswana before being transported to its intended destination within the country.

The seized drugs, weighing 360 kilogrammes, have an estimated street value of ZIG10.8 million, making it one of the significant drug busts recorded in recent months.

The five suspects are expected to appear in court facing charges related to the unlawful possession and transportation of dangerous drugs.

Meanwhile, the ZRP has reiterated its commitment to combating drug and substance abuse, urging members of the public to continue supplying information that can assist law enforcement agencies in dismantling drug trafficking networks operating across the country.
