The Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) will host a capacity-building workshop on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in journalism for women in the media on 10 July 2026 in Harare.
The workshop, seeks to equip female journalists with practical skills to responsibly integrate AI tools into their work while promoting the use of local languages in journalism. The Commission said the initiative is part of its constitutional mandate to promote the ethical use of technology in the media sector.
“The Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC), one of the Chapter 12 Independent Constitutional Commissions, is mandated to promote the ethical use of technology within the media industry, as well as to foster a culture of accountability and transparency in support of democratic values,” the Commission said.
The Commission added that the training is intended to strengthen journalists’ capacity to navigate emerging technologies while ensuring inclusive reporting.
“The workshop aims to equip media practitioners with practical knowledge and skills to responsibly integrate AI tools in their work, while promoting inclusivity through the use of local languages,” said the Commission.
The venue for the workshop will be communicated to participants, who have been asked to confirm their attendance with the Commission before the event.
The initiative aligns with the Government of Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and the national drive towards digital transformation, innovation and skills development. It also supports Government efforts to modernise the media sector, enhance digital literacy, and promote the use of indigenous languages in line with the country’s broader vision of building an inclusive, knowledge-based economy under Vision 2030.
