Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening engagement with Zimbabweans living abroad, during a diaspora engagement meeting held in Beira, Mozambique, yesterday, attended by the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, and Zimbabwe’s Consul General to Beira, Malvern Bere.
Speaking at the meeting, Advocate Mugadza said the diaspora remains a strategic partner in Zimbabwe’s economic transformation and national development agenda.
“Our diaspora is an invaluable national asset. Zimbabweans living abroad possess the skills, networks, knowledge and capital that can significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth.
Government is committed to creating an enabling environment that allows our citizens wherever they are to actively participate in national development,” said Advocate Mugadza.
He said the Second Republic continues to promote inclusive economic participation by strengthening engagement with Zimbabweans beyond the country’s borders.
“We want our diaspora to become ambassadors of Zimbabwe’s economic potential by promoting our products, facilitating investment partnerships and opening new markets for local businesses. Their participation is critical as we pursue export-led growth and sustainable development,” he noted.
Advocate Mugadza urged Zimbabweans in Mozambique to take advantage of the country’s proximity to Zimbabwe.
“Zimbabweans in Mozambique should leverage on the country’s proximity to Zimbabwe and strengthen cross-border trade and investment while supporting local producers to access regional and international markets,” he added
Zimbabwe’s Consul General to Beira, Malvern Bere, said the engagement reflected Government’s determination to maintain close ties with its citizens abroad while ensuring they remain active participants in the country’s development.
“These engagements provide an important platform for dialogue between Government and the diaspora.
We want Zimbabweans living in Mozambique to remain connected to developments back home and to explore opportunities that contribute to national economic growth,” said Bere.
He said that Zimbabweans in the diaspora have an important role to play in promoting trade, tourism and investment.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that our citizens abroad have access to information and opportunities that enable them to invest, trade and contribute meaningfully to Zimbabwe’s development.
Strong partnerships with the diaspora will help accelerate economic diplomacy and deepen regional integration,” the Consulate said.
The engagement focused on expanding diaspora participation in export development, investment promotion and market linkages as Government continues implementing policies aimed at increasing exports and attracting investment under the country’s economic development agenda.
