The Chevrons’ hopes of completing another memorable home series victory were dashed on Sunday after Bangladesh secured a dramatic four-wicket win in the third and deciding Twenty20 International at Queens Sports Club to claim the three-match series 2-1.
Having won the opening T20I, Zimbabwe entered the decider with confidence despite Bangladesh’s convincing response in the second match that had levelled the series. However, the visitors held their nerve in a tense chase to complete an impressive comeback from 1-0 down and register their first T20 International series victory of 2026.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Zimbabwe posted a competitive but below-par total of 143 for 7 from their allotted 20 overs. The hosts struggled to build sustained partnerships against a disciplined Bangladesh bowling attack that consistently applied pressure through tight lines and clever variations.
Bangladesh’s chase was far from straightforward as Zimbabwe’s bowlers fought hard to defend the modest target. The hosts struck at regular intervals to keep the contest alive, but opener Tanzid Hasan anchored the innings with an unbeaten 66, providing the stability Bangladesh needed during the tense run chase.
Despite late wickets that briefly revived Zimbabwe’s hopes, Bangladesh reached 144 for 6 with two balls to spare, sealing a four-wicket victory and the series.
The defeat was a disappointing end to what had otherwise been an encouraging tour for Zimbabwe. The Chevrons had earlier defeated Bangladesh in the one-off Test and also claimed the One-Day International series, raising expectations of completing a clean sweep across all three formats. Instead, Bangladesh showed resilience to recover after losing the first T20I, winning the final two matches to salvage pride from an otherwise difficult tour.
For Zimbabwe, the series exposed familiar batting concerns in the shortest format. While the bowling unit repeatedly kept the team in contention, the batting line-up failed to produce the commanding totals needed to put Bangladesh under sustained scoreboard pressure in the last two matches.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, will leave Zimbabwe with renewed confidence after ending the tour on a high. Their batting showed greater composure under pressure in the decisive encounter, while the bowlers restricted Zimbabwe to a chaseable score before the visitors held their nerve in a thrilling finish.
Although Zimbabwe fell short in the T20Is, the home side can still take positives from a tour that yielded victories in both the Test and ODI formats, demonstrating continued progress under captain Sikandar Raza. The challenge now will be to improve consistency in Twenty20 cricket as preparations continue for future international assignments.
