The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) intensified efforts to promote digital inclusion through a five-day Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Skills Training Workshop for teachers with visual impairments in Chiredzi.
In a statement yesterday, POTRAZ said the nationwide representation of participants underscored the importance of ensuring that the benefits of digital transformation reach all sections of society, regardless of geographical location or disability.
“The five-day ICT Skills Training Workshop brought together 37 participants, comprising teachers with visual impairments, their assistants and aides, who were selected from all the 10 provinces of Zimbabwe.
The nationwide representation reinforced the importance of ensuring that digital inclusion reaches every province, every community and every individual,”POTRAZ added.
POTRAZ said ICT skills were particularly important for teachers with visual impairments as technology could improve access to information, communication and educational resources through assistive technologies and accessible digital platforms.
“The training sought to equip participants with essential digital skills that can enhance their professional and personal lives, while promoting inclusive access to technology,” the authority said.
POTRAZ further highlighted the importance of collaboration in advancing digital inclusion, with the Internet Society Zimbabwe Chapter facilitating the training.
“The programme was facilitated by the Internet Society Zimbabwe Chapter, supporting efforts to equip participants with essential digital skills and promote inclusive access to technology,” POTRAZ said.
The authority said partnerships between Government institutions, technology organisations and other stakeholders remained crucial in addressing barriers that prevent marginalised communities from fully benefiting from technological advancement.
“The participation of teachers, assistants and aides from across the country demonstrates the need for inclusive programmes that respond to the diverse needs of communities.
Digital inclusion must be deliberate and accessible to everyone, including persons with disabilities,” POTRAZ said.
The workshop forms part of wider national efforts to ensure that Zimbabwe’s digital transformation is inclusive and leaves no one behind, particularly as technology becomes increasingly central to education, public services, communication and economic participation.
