Rusape gets ZiG19m municipal equipment boost

Rusape Town Council has received municipal equipment worth ZiG19 million under the Government’s Devolution Programme to improve service delivery, strengthen infrastructure maintenance and enhance living conditions for residents.

Commissioning the equipment, yesterday, Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Misheck Mugadza, said the investment demonstrated the Second Republic’s commitment to decentralised development and empowering local authorities to respond to community needs.

“Government remains committed to ensuring that devolution delivers tangible benefits to communities through improved infrastructure, modern equipment and efficient public services,” Mugadza said.

He said the equipment would strengthen the council’s operational capacity, enabling it to provide essential municipal services more effectively and address challenges affecting residents.

“This ZiG19 million investment is an important step towards improving service delivery in Rusape. The equipment will enhance refuse collection, improve water supply, strengthen road maintenance and increase the efficiency of other essential municipal operations,” he said.

Mugadza said the initiative reflected President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s commitment to ensuring that development reached communities across the country, in line with the Government’s decentralisation agenda.

“Devolution is about bringing development closer to the people and ensuring that local authorities have the capacity to address the priorities of their communities,” he said.

He urged the council to maintain the equipment properly and ensure that it is used efficiently to deliver lasting benefits to residents.

“The equipment must be put to good use, with proper maintenance and accountability, so that residents can experience meaningful improvements in the services they receive,” Mugadza said.

The investment is expected to support cleaner neighbourhoods through improved waste collection, more reliable water services and better-maintained roads, while helping the council respond more effectively to the growing needs of the town.

The Government’s Devolution Programme provides resources to provincial and local authorities to support infrastructure development and improve public services in their respective communities.
