Mabvuku interchange nears completion

The Mabvuku Interchange along the Harare–Mutare Highway is nearing completion, with handover to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development expected in November 2026.

Premier Rocks Project Manager, Engineer Brighton Mashonganyika, said the interchange was approaching completion, marking progress in efforts to improve traffic movement along one of Harare’s busy transport routes.

“Construction of the Mabvuku Interchange is nearing completion, and we expect to hand over the project to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development in November 2026,” said Eng Mashonganyika.

He said the project was designed to improve traffic flow, reduce delays for motorists and enhance safety for road users travelling along the Harare–Mutare Highway.

“The interchange is an important infrastructure development because it is intended to address congestion and improve the movement of vehicles along this busy corridor,” he said.

Eng Mashonganyika said the development formed part of wider efforts to upgrade road infrastructure and strengthen connectivity between Harare and surrounding areas.

“Improving road infrastructure is essential in ensuring that motorists can travel more efficiently while reducing the challenges associated with traffic congestion and road safety,” he said.

Meanwhile, construction activities are progressing at the Masasa Interchange, where piling and foundation works are underway as preparations continue for the next stages of development.

“Piling and foundation works are currently underway at the Masasa Interchange. These activities are critical in establishing the structural base required for the subsequent construction stages,” Eng Mashonganyika said.

He added that construction of the Delport Road trumpet interchange was expected to follow, extending infrastructure improvements to another key road junction.

“Following the ongoing works at Masasa, construction of the Delport Road trumpet interchange is set to commence. The project will contribute towards improving connectivity and traffic movement in the surrounding areas,” he said.

The three interchange developments are intended to improve the efficiency of road transport by providing better traffic management at busy junctions, reducing conflict points between vehicles and supporting safer journeys.

Moreover, the Harare–Mutare Highway is an important transport route linking the capital with eastern parts of the country and serving motorists and commercial traffic travelling between different centres.
