A highly productive and forward-looking stakeholders’ engagement meeting was held at Plumtree Polytechnic yesterday, bringing together an impressive cross-section of leaders, educators, and community representatives united by a shared vision to strengthen education, unity, and sustainable development in the region.

The meeting was graced by several high-profile dignitaries, including ZANU PF Politburo Member Senator Honourable Richard Ndhlovu, Minister of Industry and Commerce Honourable Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndhlovu, Plumtree Town Council Chairman Alderman Ndlovu, and members of the Plumtree Polytechnic Trust led by its Chairperson, Mr Luthe.

The gathering also drew senior administrators including Mangwe RDC Chief Executive Officer Mr Ngwenya and Bulilima RDC CEO Mr Mlauzi, alongside Junior Councillors, local business leaders, and academics such as Professor Ncube, Dean of the NUST Faculty of Commerce.

During the session, detailed presentations outlined the background, achievements, and ongoing challenges facing Plumtree Polytechnic. Stakeholders were briefed on the institution’s enrolment statistics, available academic programmes, and infrastructure developments.

The discussions highlighted the Polytechnic’s pivotal role as a driver of innovation, skills development, and local empowerment in the Matabeleland South region.

Participants were later divided into thematic groups to deliberate on key issues such as bureaucracy, financial sustainability, community participation, and course diversification.

These breakout discussions produced a range of actionable recommendations aimed at streamlining institutional operations and enhancing the Polytechnic’s ability to meet the evolving needs of students and the community.

Minister Nqobizitha Ndhlovu commended the initiative, describing it as “a crucial platform for collective reflection and planning.”

He emphasised that the strength of Plumtree Polytechnic lies in unity and collaboration among its stakeholders.

“Development is not achieved by one individual but through shared vision and collective effort. When the community, government, and private sector work together, institutions like Plumtree Polytechnic thrive,” he said.

The most moving part of the day came during an open session where each stakeholder shared their personal vision for the future of Plumtree Polytechnic. Despite varying perspectives, a common thread ran through every contribution — the desire to see the institution grow into a beacon of education, innovation, and opportunity for the people of Plumtree and beyond.

The meeting concluded on a hopeful note, with all stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to transforming Plumtree Polytechnic into a centre of excellence that nurtures skills, drives innovation, and promotes inclusive development for generations to come.
