Youths in Matabeleland North Province have benefitted from tractors unveiled under the Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme.
Seven tractors availed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa have been handed over to young farmers as the 2025/26 summer cropping season gathers pace. The initiative, which forms part of a wider national effort to enhance agricultural productivity, is also intended to strengthen food security and promote youth participation in the rural economy.
Beneficiaries say the equipment could mark an important shift in their capacity to till the land and improve yields.
“This support from the President empowers us, and that is why we will support his vision all the way,” said one beneficiary.
“We are happy. This is not the first time we are benefitting, in fact, there is a lot that we continue to receive as youths, and I am very grateful,” added another.
With the government emphasising the inclusion of young people in the mainstream economy, the programme has come at a crucial moment.
“All we can say to our President is thank you, and we will do our best to be productive. We are young people who believe in working hard for our nation,” said ZANU PF Matabeleland North Youth Chairperson, Cde Lundy Sianzeka.
Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Richard Moyo, added, “When we talk about leaving no one and no place behind, this is what we mean. Our President wants everyone to be included in the national development agenda.”
The tractors are expected to play a vital role not only in enhancing agricultural production but also in advancing the government’s broader vision for rural development.
