Man kills wife over infidelity suspicion as mother‑in‑law watches

Police in the Midlands Province are investigating the alleged murder of a 26-year-old woman in Gweru, with her husband currently at large.

The deceased, identified as Patience Madula, was allegedly killed by her husband, Brighton Kahlanga (31), on December 20, 2025, at Village Chinyama. The incident is reported to have followed accusations of infidelity.

Confirming the case, Zimbabwe Republic Police Midlands provincial spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Madula sustained severe injuries during a violent domestic altercation that occurred at around 11pm.

Inspector Mahoko noted that Kahlanga’s mother was present at the homestead at the time of the incident but fled the scene fearing for her safety.

According to police, Kahlanga allegedly telephoned his brother-in-law during the confrontation, threatening to kill Madula and later take his own life, claiming she was involved in an extramarital affair. When the brother-in-law later arrived, Madula was found lying unconscious, while Kahlanga had already fled.

Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities have appealed to members of the public to provide any information that may assist in locating the suspect.

Inspector Mahoko urged communities to resolve disputes peacefully and emphasized the importance of respecting the sanctity of human life.
