Farmers to receive medicinal Herb Production Training

An Agricultural firm, Maga Agri Pvt Ltd, will host a Medicinal Herb Commercial Production Training on 13 March, 2026, aimed at equipping farmers with skills to venture into the growing medicinal herb sector.

The training will focus on the commercial production of turmeric, ginger and black pepper, crops that are increasingly gaining demand in both local and international markets.

According to the organisers, the training will cover soil preparation, crop management, yield optimisation, drying, processing and value-addition techniques, as well as guidance on export compliance and market requirements.

Chief executive officer Simon Magama said the initiative is designed to help farmers tap into opportunities in the expanding medicinal herb industry.

“The global medicinal herb market is expanding and farmers who move early will secure production contracts and market access first,” he said.

Magama added that the training is intended to help farmers move beyond traditional crops and venture into more profitable agricultural enterprises.

“This programme is designed to equip farmers with practical production knowledge while also linking them to market opportunities in the medicinal herb value chain,” he said.

Participants will also have an opportunity to sign off-take agreements for medicinal herb production, enabling them to secure markets for their produce.

The training will be held at Stapleford in Mt Hampden, Harare, and will run from 9am to 4pm.

The initiative  complements Government efforts to promote agricultural diversification, value addition and export-oriented farming under the National Development Strategy 2, which prioritises high-value crops and increased participation of farmers in emerging agricultural value chains.
