Midlands province receives mobile clinic

Government commissioned a mobile clinic truck, an ambulance, a minibus and two service vehicles yesterday at Gweru Provincial Hospital, to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to medical services for rural communities.
The vehicles were commissioned by the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube.
Addressing officials and health workers during the commissioning ceremony, Minister Ncube said the mobile clinic would play a critical role in ensuring that essential health services reach communities in remote parts of the province.
“Today marks a very important milestone for the Midlands Province as we commission this mobile clinic truck, an ambulance, a minibus and two service vehicles that will significantly enhance the delivery of healthcare services in our communities.
This mobile clinic is equipped with advanced maternity and diagnostic tools that will allow our healthcare professionals to provide critical services directly to the people, particularly those living in rural and hard-to-reach areas,” he added.
He said the introduction of the mobile clinic would help reduce the distances that many villagers travel to access health facilities, particularly pregnant women and vulnerable groups.
“For many of our people in rural areas, accessing healthcare has often meant travelling long distances to the nearest clinic or hospital. This mobile clinic will bring services closer to the people and ensure that communities receive timely medical attention,” he said.
Minister Ncube noted that maternal and child health services stand to benefit significantly from the initiative.
“The equipment installed in this mobile clinic will enable healthcare workers to conduct maternity services, screenings and basic diagnostic tests, thereby improving early detection of illnesses and supporting safe motherhood,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of proper management and maintenance of the vehicles.
“I would like to urge our health authorities and personnel to ensure that these vehicles are used responsibly and maintained properly so that they continue to serve our communities effectively for many years to come,” said Ncube.
Minister Ncube added that Government remains committed to strengthening the country’s healthcare system through investments in infrastructure, equipment and service delivery programmes.
“Our Government will continue to invest in initiatives that improve the well-being of our people because access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right for every Zimbabwean,” he said.
Government has been scaling up efforts to improve healthcare delivery through the procurement of ambulances, upgrading of health facilities and deployment of mobile clinics to reach underserved communities, particularly in rural areas where access to medical services remains limited.
