Zvikomborero Farm in Chivhu, Mashonaland East Province, has been honoured with the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS) National Livestock Award after its Simbra stud bull was named overall winner in the beef category at last year’s 2025 Zimbabwe Agricultural Show.
The award, sponsored by animal health company COOPERS, was presented recently during the farm’s National Victory Field Day, which saw the Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development, Anxious Jongwe Masuka, Government officials, livestock breeders and other agricultural stakeholders attending.
Speaking at the event, Minister Masuka said agricultural shows continue to play a key role in driving productivity and innovation in the livestock sector.
“Agricultural shows remain key platforms for benchmarking excellence, showcasing innovation and driving productivity through healthy competition,” he said.
He added that Government is prioritising genetic improvement and commercialisation in livestock production as part of efforts to strengthen the national herd.
“We are urging farmers to focus on genetic improvement and commercially viable livestock production systems that strengthen the beef sector,” he said.
Zvikomborero Farm owner, Dr Divine Simbi-Ndlhukula, said the recognition reflects sustained investment in structured breeding and herd improvement.
“This recognition is the result of consistent focus on breeding superior animals and building a resilient stud herd based on performance and genetic quality,” she said.
The recognition comes at a time when Government is intensifying efforts to transform the agricultural sector under its broader development agenda, which prioritises food security, rural industrialisation and increased agricultural productivity. The success of stud breeders such as Zvikomborero Farm is seen as aligning with national goals of improving livestock genetics, boosting beef output and enhancing farmers’ participation in value chains. It also supports the drive towards a modernised, competitive and climate-resilient agricultural sector capable of contributing more significantly to economic growth and rural livelihoods.
