The High Court sitting at Hwange has sentenced two Bulawayo men to 20 years in prison each after convicting them of the murder of a 27-year-old Nyamandlovu man.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said Ndabezinhle Sithole (28) and Brian Matinyadze (35) were convicted of murdering Anold Moyo of Harlesden Farm, Nyamandlovu, in a case that involved the recovery of weapons and personal belongings linked to the crime.
“Anold Moyo was found dead inside his kitchen hut on July 31, 2021, with multiple stab wounds on various parts of his body, including the stomach, neck, back, head and face.
The wife Sitshengisiwe Moyo, reported the matter to the police after discovering her husband’s body. She told authorities that her husband had been in the company of unknown friends before his death,” the Prosecution said.
Investigations later established that Sithole and Matinyadze, who were neighbours of Sitshengisiwe’s mother in Mzilikazi Township, Bulawayo, had travelled to Nyamandlovu after allegedly being invited by her to assist with farming activities.
“The two offenders, who were neighbours of Sitshengisiwe’s mother in Mzilikazi Township, Bulawayo, had travelled to Nyamandlovu on Sitshengisiwe’s invitation to purportedly assist with farming activities.
Police recovered items believed to have been used during the commission of the crime, including an axe head and a kitchen knife. Investigators also recovered Moyo’s stolen mobile phone and tennis shoes, which formed part of the evidence presented before the court,” the NPAZ said.
Sitshengisiwe, who had been accused of conspiring with the two men to murder her husband, allegedly died before she could stand trial and answer to the allegations against her.
The NPAZ said the conviction and sentencing demonstrated the justice system’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of serious violent crimes face the consequences of their actions.
“The NPAZ remains committed to ensuring that offenders who commit serious violent crimes are prosecuted and held accountable in accordance with the law,” the authority said.
The prosecution of the case forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat violent crime and ensure justice for victims and their families.
