The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof Amon Murwira, and Madagascar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christine Razanamahasoa, reaffirmed their commitment to advancing regional integration following a high-level meeting during the just-ended 28th SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation held in Salima, Malawi.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said the engagement provided an opportunity for the two countries to explore ways of deepening cooperation within the framework of South-South cooperation.
“The meeting reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Madagascar, with both Ministers discussing ways to enhance cooperation under the framework of South-South cooperation.
The discussions reflected the two countries’ shared commitment to strengthening African unity and promoting partnerships that support regional development,” the Ministry said.
Madagascar commended Zimbabwe for its growing role in continental and international affairs.
“Madagascar also commended Zimbabwe for its regional leadership, congratulating the country on its election to the United Nations Security Council and its forthcoming COMESA Chairmanship.
The country also reaffirmed its commitment to working with Zimbabwe in advancing regional integration and African solidarity,” it said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said the meeting demonstrated Zimbabwe’s continued efforts to build strategic partnerships with other African nations and strengthen diplomatic relations.
“Both nations reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional integration and African solidarity,” the Ministry said.
The engagement between the two ministers come at a time when African countries are strengthening cooperation through regional and continental platforms to address common challenges, promote economic development and enhance collective security.
