Zimbabwe to host prestigious Global Modern Art Conference

Zimbabwe is set to host the Annual Conference of the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art (CIMAM) from the 20th to the 22nd of November 2026 at a venue to be announced.

The milestone follows Zimbabwe’s successful participation at the Biennale Arte 2026 and reflects the international partnerships and cultural exchanges fostered through the prestigious global art exhibition.

In a statement, yesterday, Italy in Zimbabwe said the development marks an important moment not only for Zimbabwe but for the African continent as a whole, as it positions African artistic voices more prominently on the international stage.

“Beyond the Biennale Arte 2026, Zimbabwe’s participation is creating a lasting legacy. Thanks to the international exposure and partnerships fostered also through the Biennale, Africa will, for the first time in history, host the Annual Conference of CIMAM in Zimbabwe,” the statement read.

The Italian Embassy described the achievement as a major boost for Zimbabwe’s cultural diplomacy and international standing in the arts sector.

“A milestone that strengthens Zimbabwe’s place in the global cultural conversation and highlights the growing importance of African voices in contemporary art,” the statement added.

Italy in Zimbabwe noted the benefits of participating in international cultural platforms.

“Zimbabwe’s participation in International cultural platforms extends beyond artistic recognition because it helps in creating tangible opportunities that contribute to the growth and sustainability of the country’s creative industries,” the embassy said.

The hosting of the CIMAM Annual Conference is expected to further cement Zimbabwe’s position as an emerging hub for contemporary art in Africa and provide a platform for amplifying African perspectives in global artistic discourse.
