Zanu PF moves to review ZICOSU representation

Zanu PF has called for a review of a proposal to incorporate Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union (ZICOSU) members into provincial party structures and grant the organisation’s chairperson a seat on the National Executive, at the just ended Zanu PF Conference, in Chinhoyi.

The resolution calls for the proposal to be reconsidered in view of existing representation of affiliated organisations through the party’s education structures and the need to preserve established cell and ward structures.

The conference noted that the proposed arrangements should be assessed against existing party structures to avoid duplication of representation and maintain the established organisational framework.

“The proposal needs to be reviewed in light of the existing representation of affiliates through the relevant education structures and the need to preserve established cell and ward structures,” the resolution states.

The proposal would see ZICOSU members incorporated as ex-officio members of provincial structures, while the organisation’s chairperson would become a member of the National Executive.

However, the conference resolution calls for a review of these provisions, placing emphasis on the coordination of affiliate representation within existing party structures.

The deliberations highlight the importance of aligning youth and student representation with established organisational channels while ensuring that the party’s grassroots structures remain intact.

The review is expected to clarify the place of student representation within Zanu PF’s organisational framework, balancing the participation of affiliated groups with the need to maintain established party structures and avoid duplication of roles.
