A Nairobi woman known as Nimoo was left standing alone at the airport for nearly seven hours after her long-distance boyfriend, whom she had met online, failed to board his flight or respond to her calls. Nimoo arrived at the airport around 5 pm, bouquet in hand, fully expecting to meet the man she had been speaking to online finally. The two had kept in close contact throughout the day, and he had even told her he was about to step off the plane that afternoon.
By midnight, there was no sign of him. His phone was switched off and completely unreachable. A visibly distraught Nimoo recorded a TikTok video at the scene, her flowers long past their bloom, to speak directly to the man who had left her waiting.
“Guys, imagine I have been at the airport for over nine hours. I came at around 5 to meet this guy whom I have been talking to online. He was to come today, and we have been in communication; he even told me he was about to alight the plane at around 5 pm and I am here standing with my flowers, which have already withered,” she said. At one point, her phone battery drained entirely from hours of waiting, and she had to borrow a power bank from a stranger just to stay connected in case he called. Rather than break down quietly, Nimoo chose to address him directly on camera. She said that had he simply been honest about not wanting to visit, she would have respected that far more than being strung along and humiliated.
“I am just doing this video to call out this guy and to tell him that he has done me wrong. If he didn’t want to come he could have just said it from the onset. Even my flowers have withered and he shut down his phone and I cannot reach him, he has done me wrong but its fine,” she said. In a moment of raw vulnerability, Nimoo also turned the hurt inward, wondering aloud whether she was somehow the common thread in her romantic disappointments, and confessing that she was deeply exhausted by repeated letdowns in her love life.
