Ashley Miller Kamangirira has powered her way into the women’s 100m hurdles final at the ongoing African Athletics Championships in Accra, following an impressive semi-final showing on Wednesday.
The Zimbabwean national record holder secured her spot after finishing second in her heat, crossing the line behind Nigerian world record holder Tobi Amusan. Kamangirira clocked her first sub-13-second time of the season, a performance that has heightened hopes of another podium finish after her bronze medal at the 2024 African Games.
Attention now turns to the track later on Wednesday, where sprinters Tapiwanashe Makarawu, Ngoni Makusha and Methembe Tshuma are expected to compete in the men’s 100m semi-finals as they aim to secure places in the final.
In the 400m events, Zimbabwe also enjoyed a strong start, with Leeford Zuze, Dennis Hove and Thandazani Ndhlovu all advancing comfortably to the semi-finals after solid performances in their respective heats.
