InDrive Driver’s body recovered in suspected murder

A Harare InDrive driver who went missing shortly after completing an early morning trip on Wednesday has been found dead, in a case now being treated as suspected murder.

Crime Watch Zimbabwe confirmed the development in a statement issued yesterday, describing the incident as a tragic turn of events that unfolded just hours after the driver’s last known movement.

“We have received a sad update on Brian Nandana’s case. He went missing today after completing an early morning InDrive trip at around 3am. Unfortunately, Brian was found deceased,” the statement read.

According to the same statement, a suspect believed to be known to the deceased was later apprehended after allegedly attempting to flee when confronted by authorities. Warning shots were reportedly fired during the arrest.

“The suspect, reportedly a close friend, was apprehended this afternoon after warning shots were fired as he allegedly tried to escape,” Crime Watch Zimbabwe said.

Crime Watch further alleged that the suspect later led investigators to the location where the victim had been buried.

“He later directed police to the place where he had buried Brian Nandana,” the statement said.

Crime Watch Zimbabwe also alleged that the suspect had attempted to mislead people by circulating false audio recordings in an effort to cover his tracks.

“It is alleged that this same individual had been circulating made-up audio messages in an attempt to cover his tracks,” the organisation said.

The body was reportedly recovered in an area identified as Warren Park, according to the statement. However, no official confirmation has been provided by police regarding the condition of the body, the cause of death, or the exact circumstances surrounding its discovery.

The organisation further raised unverified claims circulating on social media regarding possible ritual motives.

“As of now, the suspect is in police custody and is suspected to have wanted to use Brian for ritual purposes,” Crime Watch Zimbabwe said.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing, with details surrounding the motive, timeline of events, and relationship between the suspect and the deceased yet to be formally established by the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
