Shepherd Severa remains a key suspect in the shocking killing that has dominated public discussion, despite police claims that he confessed. What has drawn further attention is the eerie comparison many have made to Count Dracula, the villain from Dracula, whose story has inspired numerous films.
According to police, Severa allegedly killed his friend, Bryan Nandana, 29, under disturbing circumstances that have unsettled the Warren Park community. Nandana, described by friends as friendly, deeply religious, and well loved, had reportedly been struggling to repay a US$2,800 debt.
Authorities say Severa lured Nandana to Pfukwa Shopping Centre around 3am on Wednesday. A disagreement allegedly escalated into violence. Police reports indicate that Severa transported the body to Warren Hills Cemetery before leaving the scene. Investigators later recovered a blood-stained Toyota Aqua and a mobile phone that helped identify the suspect.
National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed Severa’s arrest and said he led officers to a shallow grave where the body was found.
Some Warren Park D residents suspect ritual motives, though police have not confirmed this.
In a statement, Centre of Hope mourned Nandana, describing him as a gifted pianist who had played a central role in the Intentional 2026 programme. They praised his humility, dedication, and musical talent, saying his contribution brought unity and hope to the community.
The organisation extended its condolences to Nandana’s family and friends, expressing comfort in their Christian faith as they grieve his loss
