Zimbabwe, Venezuela strengthen UN Cooperation

Zimbabwe’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Taonga Mushayavanhu, has reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Venezuela at the United Nations.

Ambassador Mushayavanhu made the remarks after receiving a courtesy call from the Permanent Representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations, Ambassador Coromoto Godoy Calderón, at Zimbabwe’s Permanent Mission in New York, yesterday.

Speaking after the meeting, Ambassador Mushayavanhu conveyed Zimbabwe’s solidarity with the people and Government of Venezuela during the difficult period they are going through as a result of a recent earthquake.

“Our discussions today reflected the strong spirit of friendship and solidarity that exists between Zimbabwe and Venezuela.

“We expressed our heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Venezuela following the recent devastating earthquake and acknowledged the critical role that United Nations agencies continue to play in supporting humanitarian relief efforts,” he said.

He said natural disasters underscored the importance of international cooperation and coordinated humanitarian action.

“The United Nations remains an indispensable platform for mobilising international support during times of crisis.

It is important that member states continue to work collectively to ensure that affected communities receive timely humanitarian assistance and the resources required for recovery and rebuilding,” Ambassador Mushayavanhu said.

The Zimbabwean envoy said the meeting also provided an opportunity for both countries to deepen collaboration on issues of shared interest at the United Nations.

“We exchanged views on a broad range of matters of mutual interest and reaffirmed our shared commitment to strengthening cooperation within the United Nations.

Zimbabwe and Venezuela have consistently valued multilateralism, mutual respect among nations and constructive engagement in advancing the interests of developing countries,” he said.

Ambassador Mushayavanhu added that Zimbabwe remained committed to expanding its bilateral and multilateral engagements with Venezuela.

“We identified opportunities for closer collaboration on issues before the United Nations and agreed that continued dialogue and consultation will further strengthen the longstanding relations between our two countries.

Our shared commitment to cooperation provides a solid foundation for advancing common priorities on the international stage,” he noted.

Zimbabwe and Venezuela have maintained warm diplomatic relations over the years, with both countries frequently supporting each other on multilateral issues and advocating for stronger South-South cooperation within the United Nations.
