Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with the people of Palestine while pledging to deepen bilateral cooperation in women’s empowerment, community development and socio-economic transformation.
The commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting in Harare yesterday between the Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Dr Tamer Almassri, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa.
Speaking after the meeting, Ambassador Almassri said Palestine was eager to broaden its partnership with Zimbabwe by fostering closer collaboration between institutions and women’s organisations in the two countries.
“Our women’s delegation once came here, and we are happy to come again and are ready to host you in Palestine. We want to be partners and supporters in women’s empowerment. Women in Zimbabwe are very strong; they actively contribute to the growth of different sectors,” he said.
Senator Mutsvangwa said Zimbabwe highly values its longstanding friendship with Palestine and remains committed to expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
“Our mandate is to bring people together. Small and Medium Enterprises are the pulse of the economy. We are also responsible for cooperatives, which have a wider reach of inclusivity in line with Vision 2030,” she said.
She reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s support for the Palestinian people, emphasising the country’s commitment to peace and justice.
“We appreciate, as the Government of Zimbabwe and as women of Zimbabwe, the long-standing cordial relationships between Zimbabwe and Palestine. We value engagement on matters of mutual interest and opportunities to further strengthen that relationship. We are in total solidarity with the people of Palestine. We condemn what is happening in the Gaza Strip,” she said.
The meeting ended with both parties expressing their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation, including the development of memoranda of understanding in key sectors to promote women’s empowerment, community development and broader socio-economic progress.
