Zimbabwe’s diplomatic profile and capacity to host international engagements are set to receive a boost following the renovation of the Diplomatic Lounge at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport ahead of the COMESA Heads of State and Government Summit scheduled for October 19 to 22, 2026.
In a statement, today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said the upgraded facility would provide a suitable reception area for visiting dignitaries and international delegations attending the regional summit and other high-level engagements.
“The lounge would serve foreign heads of state, foreign ministers and other delegates visiting Zimbabwe for state visits, bilateral meetings and multilateral conferences.
“Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, this investment strengthens Zimbabwe’s hosting capacity and economic diplomacy,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry stressed that modern infrastructure, effective diplomacy and strategic engagement were important in positioning Zimbabwe as a preferred destination for international events, trade and investment.
“The upgraded lounge forms part of efforts to improve the country’s capacity to accommodate high-level visitors and strengthen engagement with international partners,” the Ministry said.
The renovation comes as Zimbabwe prepares to host the COMESA summit, which is expected to bring together regional leaders to discuss cooperation and economic development among member states.
