Zimbabwe, Afghanistan Clash in Three Match T20I Series at Harare Sports Club

The battle lines have been drawn as Zimbabwe and Afghanistan lock horns this afternoon in the first of a three-match T20 International (T20I) series at Harare Sports Club, with the opening ball set for 1:30PM (CAT).

The encounter marks the latest chapter in what has become one of cricket’s most competitive rivalries between the two sides, both of which are determined to make a statement ahead of upcoming international fixtures.

For Zimbabwe, the home series offers an opportunity to build momentum and showcase progress under the guidance of coach Justin Sammons, while Afghanistan will be looking to reaffirm their dominance in the shorter format.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza said the team was eager to deliver a strong performance in front of home supporters.

“We know Afghanistan are a tough side, but we’ve prepared well and are confident in our game plan. Our focus is on executing our skills, playing smart cricket, and making sure we use the home advantage to full effect,” he said

The visitors, led by Rashid Khan, boast a formidable line-up renowned for explosive batting and spin bowling depth. Rashid said his side was not taking Zimbabwe lightly.

“Zimbabwe have improved a lot and we expect a good fight. We’re here to play positive cricket and give the fans an entertaining series,” he said

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) spokesperson Darlington Majonga said the series was crucial in maintaining the team’s competitive edge.

“This series gives our players valuable international exposure and a chance to test themselves against one of the world’s most consistent T20 sides. We are confident that fans will witness quality cricket throughout the three matches,” he said

The second and third T20Is are scheduled for later this week at the same venue. ZC officials have encouraged fans to turn out in numbers to rally behind the Chevrons as they look to reclaim their dominance on home soil.

With pride, rankings, and momentum on the line, this afternoon’s clash promises to be a thrilling contest between two sides determined to leave a mark a fitting spectacle for Zimbabwean cricket fans eager for victory
