Mugabe case postponed to 17 April

The case against Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe and his co-accused Tobias Tamirepi Matonhodze has been postponed to 17 April 2026 after the State said plea negotiations were still not complete. Both men remain in custody following the delay.

Prosecutors told the court that discussions toward a plea agreement were ongoing, despite earlier indications that a deal was close. The magistrate warned that no further postponements would be allowed and that the case must proceed on the next scheduled date.

The two accused are facing several charges, including attempted murder, after a 23-year-old gardener was allegedly shot in the back at a Hyde Park property in mid-February. They are also charged with firearm-related offences, defeating the ends of justice, and alleged immigration violations.

Earlier this month, the pair abandoned their bail applications due to the immigration-related issues linked to the case.
